Hard Felt / Soft Felt Insulations

Hard graphite felt is a dimensionally stable insulation material made of graphite fibers and a carbon-based binder. Schunk hard felt is carbonized and graphitized, making it suitable for use at temperatures up to 2,800°C. This material is primarily used to produce self-supporting plates, hollow cylinders and customer-specific geometries. The main area of use is high-temperature kiln construction. Soft graphite felt is characterized by high flexibility and is easy to process. Its high geometric adaptability enables even the most complex shapes for insulating almost any system design to be implemented. Specialized shapes can also be produced in large quantities through punching. Soft felts can be stabilized through chemical vapor infiltration, or CVI, with carbon and transformed into self-supporting structures.

You benefit from these advantages:

  • Low thermal conductivity
  • High thermal resistance
  • No static electricity discharge
  • Low thermal capacity
  • High degree of purity
  • Distinctive uniformity
